Department of Mathematics and Modelling

Introduction - Mat és Mod

Last modified: 06. November 2023

The history of the Department of Mathematics and Modelling goes back more than 60 years. Its earliest predecessor was the Department of Physics and Mathematics, established in 1951 at the Faculty of Mechanization of the Hungarian University of Agricultural Sciences.

Over the past decades, the department has functioned as part of several organizational units of the university (most of the time as part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering), while its current form was re-established in 2021 within the Institute of Mathematics and Basic Science.

The department currently has 12 full-time employees, whose work is assisted by 2 professors emeritus. Our colleagues are present on all campuses of the University teaching introductory calculus and statistics subjects.

The main research areas of the Department read as follows:

  • modelling and control of solar collector systems,
  • non-linear control and monitoring systems, optimal extraction of renewable resources,
  • game theory and evolutionary dynamic models,
  • examination of the demographic background of the pay-as-you-go pension system,
  • population dynamics,
  • epidemiological models,
  • stability of differential equations,
  • marketing modelling,
  • applied statistics,
  • network research,
  • mathematical didactics,
  • STEAM education, application of computer methods in the teaching of mathematics and operations research,
  • simulation method based on a two-layer mesh model, fuzzy logic,
  • Fourier analysis.
