The legal predecessor of the Department of Physics is the Department of Physics and Mathematics, which was established in 1951 at the Faculty of Mechanization of the Hungarian University of Agricultural Sciences. The Department began its independent activities under the name of the Department of Physics in 1968, and then operated as the Department of Physics and Process Control from 1994 to 2021. The staff of the Department are largely responsible for the supervision of the physics courses at the University. All the 4 colleagues of the Department work in Gödöllő.
The Department's main research areas are the following:
- drying (for energetic use - modelling, measurement technology),
- renewable energy sources,
- solar energy utilization,
- testing of solar energy applications, photovoltaic systems,
- use of microcontrollers in physical measurements,
- examination of solar photovoltaic materials,
- transport processes,
- didactics of Physics education.
